Project 2C: The 101 mask.

Huhu~~~ This assignment is interesting!! We have to do a mask (not a facial mask please). We have to sacrifice our face to put the glue and newspaper on our face. Besides that, we have to land on the bed for about 1 hour without moving. I'm here want to say thank you for my friends for helping me to do the mask.
First of all, I immersed the newspapers and the papers in water. Before I put the papers on my face, I wet my face first. First, I put a layer of tissue, then put the glue and newspaper, then put the glue again and lastly the papers. I wait about 1 hours for my mask to dry. After doing both of my mask, I coloured it with black and white, and the another one with yellow, which is same colour with my skin colour.

The materials to do the mask.

My first mask (black and white)

My second mask (my skin colour-yellow)

My table after finished the mask.
Me with my masks.

Although it looked scary, but it was a nice experience!

2B man-made structure: BST in GETTHO 2010

A day before the lecture, i open the RUS 101 2010 website, there is an announcement said that, 'please bring along a bamboo piece to class on Friday.' I said, 'OMG, where can i find my bamboo piece because it is 11pm already and yet I don't have any equipment to cut the bamboo.' However, I know many people still don't know this news, so i still can find it before the lecture tomorrow.
The next day, I when I was in the bus on the way to my school, i saw so many people in the lake there find their bamboo piece. Then I said:'Huh, so how?' Then i decided to take a very small one around the HBP school. Then I think, what is the purpose to bring along the bamboo piece? At last, we have to do a music instrument using the bamboo. Therefore, i decided to do a xylophone. So, me and my friend go to bengkel there borrow the equipments, then we cut the bamboo in front the Jabatan Keselamatan. Here has some pictures of the process to do this assignment.

Bamboo Sense

Last Friday, the lecturer shown 2 pictures of rattan basket. He asked us to observe, see and smell, what are the word that can represent the basket. These are the words that came out from my mind...

2A Structure: Natural Alumi

As usual, we were given a assignment for each lecture. For this time, we were assigned to sketch the bamboo with the caption. We had to sketch 6 different bamboo and for the 6th sketching, we had to colour it. We do the sketching for the bamboo at the Rumpun Buluh Site. Our sketching session was divided into 2 session, first was the fast sketching. We were asked to sketch the old tree, cow, goat, building and people within 30 seconds to 5 minutes. That's the very challenging task.

During the 2nd session, we are divided into groups to find the bamboo cluster. For my group, we went up the hill to find the bamboo but finally we failed. Anyway, we found the bamboo cluster also finally.

Below are my bamboo sketching...

Me, My Thoughts and I.

The second assignment that assigned by my lecturer is Me, My Thoughts and I which is about to suggest how the invention may contribute to the reconstruction of USM/Penang after the disaster. The disaster is about the increasing water level around the Penang island and people wait anxiously in their PolarShift and Other Natural Disaster Organization Kit (PONDOK) located on the hillside. Then people will not see the land at least 40 days. Therefore, some daily necessity is invented to be used in the PONDOK.
The task given by my lecturer is "Rapid Diagnosis for Tropical Diseases". Below is the final work of my assignment.

What I Heard

Today is the first day I start the lecture, Housing, Building and Planning in USM for RUS 101 course code by Mr. Wan Burhanuddin Wan Abidin. The lecture started at 0900-1100 in E48B. Although today is the first day we start our lecture in USM, he also gave us an assignment, write a blog about ‘What I Heard’ that need to be submit on 15 July.

At first, he gave the lecture about the APEX that is an institution to be accelerated for excellence. This is the time for USM to do transformation where status quo is not an option. The Vice-Cancellor, Professor Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak (DAR), had planned that the APEX journey started in 2007 until 2013 in the future. During this transformational is to change for the future. It is fast, quick, rapid and accelerated.

Next, he talked about the Studio Production. It consist of intension (niat), act (laku), product (hasil), actor (aktor), rule (peraturan) and place (tempat). In order to produce a product, all these concepts must be followed. For example, if we want to build a new building, we must have an intension, after that we must take an action that is act. For this act must have the actors. Then we must plan where is that building be placed. Apart from that, we also must follow the rules and regulations. Lastly, a new product is form.

Besides that, the lecturer also introduced us about 3P that is People, Principle and Place. He gave an example about the FIFA World Cup. He changed the football player to the HBP students, the football rules he changed to the estate rule and the place he changed to the USM field instead of the one in South Africa.

The actors included the students, studiomasters, USM community, Penangites and et, al. Mr. Wan B also introduced the studiomasters to us. The studiomasters that attended are Dr. Abdelnaser Omran Ali, Dr. Sr Ilias Said, Dr. Mohd. Hanizun Hanafi, Dr. Mohd Zailan Sulieman and Dr. Rushizal Roosli. The studiomasters also introduced themselves briefly.

Moreover, the lecturer also told us the extra knowledge that we seldom noticed. For example, there is about 35 thousands English words that can be found in Bahasa Malaysia. Besides that, we speak about 3500 Bahasa Malaysia word daily. He also told us what is the difference between listening and hear seems if translate in Bahasa Malaysia it is the same word and meaning, that is ‘mendengar’. Listening is we hear and think deeply and interpret carefully what people said, whereas hear is just hearing what people said but we did not think and interpret about it.

The lecture ended around 1100. He also gave us a website as reference – http://www.hbp.usm.my/1b/101/
