All-USM BIG APEX LEAP DISCUSSION




4/10, we were having a talk about BIG (Bamboo Interest Group), which regarding the research on bamboo for the uses of our life. Some lecturers and prof were attending the talk, they are Prof. Fun Hoong Kun (Physics), Prof. Mohd. Asri Mohd. Nawi (Chemistry) and others. The speaker of the discussion is our Mr. WanB. After his talk, Mahram also gave her talk about how she undergoes changes after so many project being done.
After the talk was the Q&A session.
The first question been asked was from Prof. Fun Hoong Kun from Physics school. He asked about where can we get the supply of bamboo, the challenges that faced when cutting the bamboos, how long for the bamboo to grow to maturity and how big is the area the bamboo grow in Malaysia? The questions were answered by Mr. WanB. At first, the students cut the bamboo within the USM compound, but now can buy from the supplier outside. When chop down the bamboo, we may face the danger like meet the cobra or sting by the bees. It usually takes about 3-4 years to achieve maturity. The plantation of bamboo in Malaysia is about 10% of the forest.
The second question was asked by another lecturer. He asked about, how can this project contribute to APEX? Mr. WanB answered that, we just do whatever we can do. We must conscious with the nature now. We must save the world.
The 3rd question, what if 2012 happened something like earthquake instead of flood? Then, we can only do what we can do now, do something that is less corruptible.
The 4th question, can bamboo become a source of energy? The answer is nothing is impossible. We can do the research with the engineers.
The 5th question is, how long the bamboo will last if no preservation is done? The answer is 'need to carry out a research'.
The 6th question is, can bamboo play its role in medicine field? Bamboo can cure "Gila Babi".
